PAN Card Photo Requirements

213-pixel rule explained

Photo specifications

The 213-pixel rule

NSDL's PAN portal requires the photo to be at least 213 × 213 px. Photos below this threshold are rejected with "image too small" errors. Minimum resolution at 96 DPI gives the 213 px minimum for a 3.5 × 2.5 cm crop.

Photo specifications

Clear passport-size photo with white background. Face must be fully visible. JPEG format. File size 20–300 KB. Recent photo not older than 3 months.

Signature specifications

Signature in black ink on white paper. JPEG under 300 KB, minimum 213 × 213 px.

Common mistakes

Uploading a photo below 213 px, using PNG format, uploading a photo with a coloured background, or submitting a photo where the face is not clearly visible are the most common errors.
